Terri Finnigan, M.A., LMFT
Specialties at a glance: anxiety, depression, relationships, LGBTQ+ issues and couples therapy.
Over the past seven years in my private practice, I have seen therapy change lives. I’ve seen clients who were humiliated by their high levels of anxiety complete therapy with a deep understanding of the gifts anxiety can bring, and a toolbox full of management techniques. I’ve seen couples that were on the verge of a break-up learn how to empathize and validate each other in a way that revolutionized their sense of intimacy. And I’ve seen members of the LGBTQ+ community turn the shame they unrightfully inherited into self-love and authenticity. This is why I love being a therapist.
I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, specializing in anxiety, depression, relationships, LGBTQ+ issues (such as relationship struggles, sexual issues, family of origin tensions, gender identity, and cultural oppression), and couples or individuals who are in the process of creating families.
I work with individuals, couples, families, and adolescents. I have a special fondness for working with artists, as I spent many years working with creative communities in New York City and Los Angeles.
Throughout my professional career, I’ve worked with a diverse population, including members of the entertainment industry, the corporate community, and children of all ages.
I received my undergraduate degree from Boston University in Film and Television and my graduate degree from Phillips Graduate University in Psychology. I’ve done extensive independent study work on transgender issues, and worked as a therapist intern at the Los Angeles LGBT Center, the largest provider for LGBTQ+ services in the country. I have worked in a private practice therapy setting for the past seven years, and have loved every minute of it!
I am licensed in both California and Florida. I am a member of the Compass LGBTQ Community Center’s Business Alliance.
