Hello and welcome! My name is José Ramirez and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Certified Sex Therapist (CST) in Fort Lauderdale Florida. I find that I do my best work with adolescents and adults who are motivated and driven to improve their lives. Whether you are facing major life changes, relationship issues, difficulties with your mental health, or are simply looking to better yourself, I am here to help.

Beginning therapy can be a scary and sometimes even daunting undertaking. I strive to provide a comfortable and safe space for all of my clients. My goal is to make you feel at ease so that you can discuss whatever is on your mind freely and openly. I take a non-judgmental and welcoming approach to therapy.

I believe it is important to take time to foster a warm and professional relationship with each client. Because everyone is unique, it’s most effective to draw inspiration from many different therapy approaches to tailor treatment in a way that is right for each individual. I welcome collaboration and encourage open and honest communication. My hope is that you will feel comfortable enough to address any concerns you may have and vice-versa.

Therapy is most productive when the client and therapist work together throughout the entire therapy process. We will be like a team, and together we will set goals and work through any barriers, should they come up. We will also celebrate victories, no matter how small, because any amount of progress is a win in my book!

It is my sincere hope that if we work together we can pursue whatever specific goals you have in an efficient, satisfactory, and empathetic manner. My main priority in working with you is to assist you achieve your goals and resolve any challenges that may be holding you back. I will be a set of fresh eyes to look at problems with you and someone you can bounce ideas off of to provide a different, unbiased perspective.

Background

I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from San Francisco State University in San Francisco, CA. I relocated to Miami and received my Master’s degree in Psychology from Florida International University. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of Florida, MH 17881.

I have worked in a variety of clinical settings including community mental health, inpatient programs, crisis, and outpatient settings. I’ve worked with issues ranging from severe mental illness, depression/anxiety, phase of life problems, relationship struggles, and LGBTQ+ specific issues.

Through my work, I have been exposed to a variety of populations and I have a particular interest in working with folks from the LGBTQ+ community. I employ a variety of treatment modalities including cognitive-behavioral, motivational interviewing, psycho-dynamic, and solution-focused therapy. I have been trained in Motivational Interviewing, CBT, CBTp, LGBTQ+ affirmative therapy, gender-affirming therapy, and HIV/AIDS counseling.

Currently, I am training to become a certified complex trauma provider. I am fully bilingual in Spanish and English and have worked with many Spanish-speaking clients.
