Employment Opportunities
Professional. Collaborative.
Current.
Hi! We're Jamie and Justin, a husband and wife team and founders of The Psychology Group Fort Lauderdale, LLC!
Jamie is a licensed clinical psychologist and Justin is a digital marketing expert. Founded in 2018, The Psychology Group (TPG) is a concierge psychology private practice specializing in highly attentive, personalized therapy for our clients.
We are seeking like-minded candidates who are equally committed to evidence-based practices, a culture of kindness, and a high caliber of professionalism.
Thank you for applying at TPG. Due to the volume of applications, we may not be able to get back to each applicant individually; however, we'll reach out if we see a potential fit.

NOW HIRING:
Wanted: Hardworking and warm-hearted psychologists and therapists with a knack for evidence-based therapy. Generous guaranteed salary plus attractive benefits package.
What’s the catch?
Let’s get the bad news out of the way.
We are serious about being the best group of providers in South Florida and everyone on staff is held to the highest of professional standards. If you are someone who feels they’ve mastered all there is to learn in this career, this job isn’t going to be a fit for you. If you are seeking a lot of autonomy without any accountability, it might feel like our practice is obsessed with data, outcomes, mission, and learning. Dream teams come from dream requirements. This job isn’t for everyone.
Now to the good news.
First, not only are we dedicated to being the best providers for our clients, The Psychology Group is also fiercely committed to being the BEST place to work. We value humor, fun, and kindness. Therapists who believe solo practice feels a bit lonely and/or daunting, are the ones who most appreciate the camaraderie and support that our practice enjoys. There is tremendous trust among team members and leadership; we count on each other and enthusiastically lift each other up. Our practice is a safe place to give and receive feedback, learn, and grow. Think, high expectations balanced with humanity.
Each Friday, we meet as a team. During these weekly team meetings, we either have case consultations, training in evidence-based practices, brainstorm new & fresh ideas, discuss charitable contributions, and/or work on social media/blog posts. Every month and quarter, we analyze our data/outcomes, course-correct where needed, and proudly celebrate wins. Frequently, the staff is surprised with parties, games, food, and gifts. We see these types of activities as fuel in our productivity gas tanks.
Second, our unique business model allows us to make a meaningful impact in our community. By being a self-pay practice, we can bypass the restrictive limitations and burdensome red tape that an insurance-based practice is tethered to. Free from insurance contracts, we are able to collect fair compensation for our work while reserving several spots for marginalized/underserved folx in the community. In fact, 20% of our clients receive our scholarship stipend and/or have a reduced rate for services. This model allows us to remain energized, passionate, AND serve those with limited access to therapy. Insurance coverage does not equal access to care.
Our Why
What we think about our team members is simple. They're family.
We may not be able to compete with the latitude of a 100% remote job. And we might not meet your salary goals right out of the gate. But what we can guarantee is that we genuinely want to enrich the lives of our team members. The bedrock of our company culture rests on the core belief that employees are a company’s most precious asset. You will be valued, respected, and listened to.
There is a significant amount of flexibility by way of making your own schedule, taking time off when you need it, working from home part of the time, and choosing your ideal clients. And there is a real opportunity for growth. You will be encouraged to create the career of your dreams whether that’s providing therapy to your ideal clients full-time, or expanding your role to include other tasks and responsibilities beyond the scope of 1:1 therapy.
Our team members are like-minded in that we believe everyone wants to succeed and be engaged in meaningful, purposeful work in a place that’s collaborative, fun, and vision-driven. Therefore, we hire to complement our strengths and counter our weaknesses. The result is a more diverse and stronger team. Our mission is to change the way people think about mental healthcare. Both the consumers and its providers.
So, are we a match? If so, we cannot wait to hear from you. Tip: Stand out by including the secret phrase "twinkle toes" in your cover letter.

Independent Practice Vs Employee Model
When considering working in a private practice vs owning your own private practice, you might be wondering, “why would I want to be an employee in private practice? Don’t therapists in independent practice make more money with fewer hours?”
Not only do independent practitioners often make less money than W-2 employees, there are also a lot more hours and stress because you’re handling EVERYTHING. Being a business owner is stressful and there’s a lot to consider. So if you find a job you love, that pays well and offers great benefits (like ours), it’s very likely that you’ll make more money, work fewer hours, and have A LOT less stress in your life as an employee. Self employment can feel glamorous but the devil is in the details.
Here’s an example. Let’s say that you’re in independent practice and you charge $150 per session hour. Your goal is to schedule 25 clients per week and you’d like to take time off for holidays and vacation. You run some quick math and figure that 25 clients at $150/session x 48 weeks = $180,000. Wow! That’s a great living! But not so fast. Let’s take a closer look.
A self-pay practice often offers a sliding scale, reduced fees, and/or discounted packages. So it doesn’t matter how much your full fee is, what matters is your average rate of reimbursement. So it’s safe to say that a therapist charging $150/session will actually have an average rate closer to $125 or a lower amount that actually lands in their bank account. Note: If you’re on insurance panels, your average reimbursement rate will be much lower.
Now let’s look at scheduling. A self-pay practice will sometimes ebb and flow with caseload numbers. So although it may be your intention to schedule 25 clients per week, you need to consider that cancellations, reschedules, and slower weeks will happen. It’s important to calculate based on the average number of weekly sessions which will likely be closer to 75-80% of a full week. And it’s still very likely that your numbers will be even lower than that. Let’s run the numbers to get your gross annual revenues with this scenario.
18 (average weekly clients) x $125 (average fee received) x 48 weeks = $108,000
“Yay! I made six figures” you might be saying. Not so fast. That’s your gross income. We need to subtract taxes and operating expenses.
In addition to income tax, self-employed clinicians (1099, Independent Contractors) must pay quarterly self-employment tax which is Medicare and Social Security tax (FICA). Self-employment tax is an extra 15.3% in taxes meaning that solo practitioners will owe more in taxes than employees. When you are a W-2 employee, the employer pays for half of FICA taxes. Self-employed clinicians will never enjoy some of the benefits that employees have such as paid time off, medical/dental/vision insurance, worker's comp, and retirement. And they aren't eligible for overtime pay or unemployment benefits either.
Below are some typical annual numbers for taxes and operating expenses for self-employed clinicians using the gross annual salary that was calculated above ($108,000). It’s likely that your operating expenses will be even higher than what’s listed below when you consider startup costs such as office supplies/furniture, getting a website completed, needing more funds allocated to the marketing budget, and other factors.
Taxes (30% is the gold standard to save) | $32,400.00 |
Credit card processing fees 3+% | $3,240.00 |
Rent ($1000/mo) | $12,000.00 |
Office Supplies | $1,200.00 |
EHR, Website, Email, & Subscriptions | $1,200.00 |
Professional Association Fees | $500.00 |
CEUs, Licenses & Fees (State, county, city) | $1,400.00 |
Malpractice & Liability Insurance | $1,000.00 |
Virtual assistant | $3,600.00 |
Marketing & Advertising | $6,000.00 |
Health Insurance | $6,000.00 |
Short Term Disability insurance | $720.00 |
Retirement Plan | $1,800.00 |
Total expenses & overhead | $71,060.00 |
Net Profit | $36,940.00 |
Poof! Over $100,000 turned into just under $37,000 without even putting anything into savings! And you worked your tail off! Many business owners feel like they work 24/7 because they’re constantly working on and in the business. So let’s say that, on average, you’re working on or in the business about 60 hours per week. $36,940 divided by 48 weeks equals $770/week. That divided by 60 hours per week $13 per hour. (And it’s cute that you plan on not working during your vacations).
The TPG staff member starting on the low end of our salary range is taking home much more money than this hypothetical established independent practitioner. They don’t have self-employment taxes AND they are getting benefits like:
- Paid time off
- 60% of Gold Level healthcare premiums covered
- Short Term Disability
- Malpractice Insurance
- Stipends for CEs and Professional Association Fees
- Retirement fund matching
- Overtime pay
The numbers don’t lie and it’s clear that there is often more profit and stability by being a W-2 employee. Of course, some folks are wired to be entrepreneurs and have the drive to create their own thing. If that’s your calling, then go for it! But do it with your eyes wide open and realistic expectations.
There’s a lot of value in working at TPG, the financials only being one part of it. If working for us fits your goals and lifestyle, we’d love to hear from you.
Really want the job? Tips for getting an interview:
- We're very invested in finding the right people for our practice. Be sure to carefully review this job post and our website as there's a lot of information there to help you discern if we're a good fit.
- We read cover letters first. Candidates that don't submit a professional cover letter don't have much of a chance of getting hired. We really, really, (really) value a thoughtful cover letter, so put some effort in writing an original one. We want to know what you're passionate about and what's unique about you. For clinical positions, be sure to show us your commitment to EBPs and how you use them. Don't simply list various treatment modalities, instead, describe how you use EBPs with your ideal client. We want to know who you do your best work with and what kind of specialization you'll bring to the practice.
- We have an eye for detail and notice others who do too. Include something specific from our website and/or our job ad in your cover letter that lets us know that you did your homework to determine that we're a good fit for each other (did we mention how much we look at cover letters?).
- Clinical Positions: We take extra note of candidates who go above and beyond the minimum application requirements. We strongly recommend submitting the optional materials (blog & report). Never written a blog before? No problem. Give it your best shot and showcase a sample of what you might like to write about.
