What is Emotional Intelligence 101

Emotional Intelligence 101 is an entirely online, self-study program chocked full of easy-to-learn psychological concepts, skills, and strategies rooted in Cognitive Behavioral Theories.

Throughout six modules, our team of mental health therapists explore topics such as stress management, relationship enhancement, communication strategies, mindfulness, coping skills, and emotion regulation, just to name a few.

Our experts have condensed complicated psychological concepts and theory into an interesting and relatable format so that you can apply what you learn to everyday challenges.

In each section, our therapists will walk you through a topic designed to sharpen emotional intelligence, increase skillful coping, and improve overall mental well-being.

Each module has about one hour’s worth of content (i.e., reading and video) plus actionable steps that you can use to practice in between sections.

You’ll learn concepts from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and other psychology theories.

The course is the equivalent of reading at least six self-help books or taking over four postgraduate psychology courses.

So, what’s the catch?

Let’s get the bad news out of the way.

This course is not for everyone. The class is an educational program and is not a replacement for mental health therapy with a licensed therapist.

Nor is it designed to treat clinical psychological conditions.

The course is not a good match for someone who does not have the time to participate in each module as well as the action steps. We recommend that participants be at least 18 years of age.

Lastly, the program will likely be a bit boring if you have zero interest in learning more about yourself, psychology, or how to better cope with life’s challenges

Now to the good news.

If you have access to the internet, plus a computer, smartphone, tablet or other streaming device, you can participate in this course.

If you understand that the course is for educational purposes only and are able and willing to reserve approximately 1-2 hours for six weeks for your personal development; then you are more likely to get the most benefit from the class.

What to expect

Each module has a different topic. You’ll learn a bit about what well-respected psychological theories have to say about the topic, some coping strategies, and how to apply the information to your life. The therapist will teach you easy to learn and easy to apply skills that are relevant to the topic of the module. See the syllabus below:

Module 1: Coping with Big Emotions

Learn skills to help you recover faster from painful emotions. Apply strategies to evade unhelpful urges, reduce physical discomfort, and increase resilience.

Module 2: The Basics of Emotional Intelligence

Understand the function and purpose of common emotions. Learn how to increase flexible perspective taking.

Module 3: Change Skills

Learn the relationship between thoughts and feelings as well as strategies to modify and adjust problematic/unhelpful thinking patterns.

Module 4: Acceptance Skills

Strategies to make room for the painful emotions/stressors that cannot be controlled or changed.

Module 5: Relationship Skills

Learn about healthy boundaries and how to communicate effectively. Get more of what you want and connect deeply with those you love most.

Module 6: Building a Life You Love

Identify your personal values so that you have clarity about the sort of person you want to be, deep within your heart. Stay motivated, organized, and committed to do what matters.
