What are CBT skills? What is CBT skill building?

Changing unhelpful thought patterns and problematic behaviors is the primary goal of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and our CBT Group. We show you how to identify what you have control over and what you can modify or change. We then teach you the skills to be able to make these meaningful changes.

You’ll learn to focus on the thoughts, interpretations, and judgments that worsen stressful situations. You’ll be able to look for errors in thinking that may be making things feel worse. Once identified, you’ll learn skills to begin to change your unhelpful thought patterns and improve your quality of life.

By having more control over how you perceive your environment, mood, and mind, future stressful situations are easier to manage!

What is this group?

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is a combination of cognitive therapy and behavioral modification. This group will teach you the skills needed to change undesired thinking patterns and equip you with the ability to cope with situations that cannot be changed.

Participation in our Online CBT Skills training is intended to supplement and enhance the work being done in your individual therapy sessions (but it’s not only limited to those in individual therapy). This group is not intended to replace the work you are doing in therapy. Instead, CBT Skills training is educational and will provide you with helpful tools to maximize benefit from your individual work.

This group is intended for people who…

  • Want to gain a better understanding of CBT concepts
  • Want to maximize the potential results from regular therapy
  • Are willing to examine their thoughts
  • Have clear treatment goals
  • Have strong motivation for change and willingness to put work into creating change
  • Are able and willing to devote the time and energy needed to successfully participate both in group and in completing homework/out of group assignments (yes, there will be assignments)
